According to the GlobeScan Canada Study, 17% Pakistanis claim to have rewarded companies that they considered to be socially responsible and 43% claim to have considered this but actually didn’t do it. The fieldwork for the survey in Pakistan was conducted by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International Association. This study was conducted in 24 countries, in which approximately 24000 randomly chosen men and women were asked a set of questions. The full report of this study can be requested from Gallup Pakistan.
A nationally representative sample of adult men and women, from across the four provinces was asked, “Over the past year, have you considered rewarding a socially responsible company by either buying their products or speaking positively about the company to others? Would you say you have. . .?” In response 17% Pakistanis said that they had actually done this in the past year, 43% said that they had considered this but didn’t actually do it and 32% had not considered doing this. According to the average response across 23 countries, 27% of the people had actually done this in the past year, 25% had considered it but did not actually do it and 42% had not considered doing this. Thus 10% fewer Pakistanis than the average statistic had actually rewarded a socially responsible company and Pakistan ranks 14 out of the 23 countries in this regard.
When the same question was asked in other countries, 9% of the Indians said that they had rewarded a socially responsible company and 27% had considered doing it but didn’t actually do it; 49% in the UK claimed to have rewarded a socially responsible company in the past year and 24% had considered doing it. Comparing India and Pakistan 8% more Pakistanis had rewarded a socially responsible company and comparing Pakistan with UK, 32% fewer Pakistanis claimed to have rewarded a company in the past. Furthermore Pakistan’s trend shows mixed results with 21% Pakistanis claiming to have rewarded a socially responsible company in 2011, 13% claiming the same in 2013 and 17% in 2015.
