Trust in performance of National Assembly low since 2008.

According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan in 2013, 39% Pakistanis said they trust the performance of the National Assembly; 57% said they distrust it.

A nationally representative sample of adult men and women, from across the four provinces was asked in 2013, “I will take names of some organizations; kindly tell how much trust you have on the performance of the following organizations?” Regarding the performance of National Assembly, 9% respondents said they trust its performance too much, 30% said they trust its performance to an extent, 26% trust it less, while 31% have no trust at all and 4% did not respond.  

This question was also asked in previous years. In 2008, 20% respondents said they trust the performance of the National too much, 47% trusted it to an extent, 22% trusted it less, while only 6% did not trust it all and 5% did not respond. Since 2008, trust ratings for the performance of the National Assembly have fallen  and remained consistently low. In 2009, 7% respondents said they trust the performance of the National too much, 32% trusted it to an extent, 35% trusted it less, while 18% did not trust it all and 8% did not respond. Pakistani public’s trust in the performance of the National Assembly remained around this level through 2010 and 2011, before rising slightly in 2012. In 2012, 13% respondents said they trust the performance of the National too much, 30% trusted it to an extent, 19% trusted it less, while 32% did not trust it all and 6% did not respond.

The study was released by Gilani Research Foundation and carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International. The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 2516 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during January 06 – January 13, 2013. Error margin is estimated to be approximately ± 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.
