According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, 54% Pakistanis say leisure is an important part of their life; 45% consider it unimportant.
A nationally representative sample of adult men, from across the four provinces was asked “Please tell us, how important is leisure in your life?” Responding to this, 17% said very important, 37% said somewhat important and 36% said not important. 9% said it was not important at all and 1% did not respond. A similar survey was conducted in China, where 21% of the respondents considered leisure to be very important whereas 49% said it was somewhat important. 24% said it was not important, 2% said not at all important and 4% did not respond. In Philippines, 12% said leisure is very important compared to 43% who said it is somewhat important and 33% who opined that it is not important. 12% of the respondents said that leisure was not important at all. In the United States, 39% considered leisure to be very important, 52% said it was somewhat important while 8% said it was not important. 1% replied leisure was not important at all.

This study was done as part of the World Values Survey Sixth Wave, conducted apart from Pakistan in 60 other countries. The study was released recently in Doha where Gallup Pakistan's Executive Director represented Pakistan. The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 1200 men in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during 30th January - 20th February, 2012. Error margin is estimated to be approximately ± 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.
