Women’s parda (75%) was the most commonly discussed issue in the Friday sermon. GILANI POLL/GALLUP PAKISTAN

According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, Women’s parda (75%) was the most commonly discussed issue in the Friday sermon.

A nationally representative sample of adult men, from across the four provinces was asked “Please tell us if the following issues were discussed in your Friday sermon?” Responding to this, 39% said Polio was discussed, 75% said women’s parda, 43% said discussion was against the drone attacks, 48% replied about America and 69% said it was about what clothes to wear. 59% of the respondents said the Friday sermon was about the obscenities on TV, 43% said it was about politicians, 38% said related to music not being allowed whereas 35% said it was in reference to talks with the Taliban.

The study was released by Gilani Foundation and carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International. The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 1492 men in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during Mar 03, 2014 – Mar 10, 2014. Error margin is estimated to be approximately ± 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.
