Majority Pakistanis (72%) believe an Imam should be aware of other subjects besides his religious knowledge. GILANI POLL/GALLUP PAKISTAN

According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, majority Pakistanis (72%) believe an Imam should be aware of other subjects besides his religious knowledge.

A nationally representative sample of adult men and women, from across the four provinces was asked “Should the Imam be aware of subjects like science and technology, English language etc. besides his religious knowledge or not?” Responding to this, 72% said yes and 28% replied no.

The study was released by Gilani Foundation and carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International. The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 2616 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during Mar 03, 2014 – Mar 10, 2014. Error margin is estimated to be approximately ± 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.
