60% Pakistanis believe that women should be ready to leave their employment for the sake of their families. GILANI POLL/GALLUP PAKISTAN

According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, 60% Pakistanis believe that women should be ready to leave their employment for the sake of their families.

A nationally representative sample of adult men and women, from across the four provinces was asked “Please tell us, how much do you agree or disagree with the following statement: Women should be ready to leave their employment for the sake of their families?” Responding to this, 29% said they completely agreed, 31% said they somewhat agreed and 21% replied they neither agreed nor disagreed. 13% of the respondents mentioned they somewhat disagreed compared to 4% who said they completely disagreed. 2% did not respond.

The study was released by Gilani Foundation and carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International. The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 2619 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during Feb 10, 2014 – Feb 17, 2014. Error margin is estimated to be approximately ± 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.
