75% Pakistanis say the water they drink is safe for health. GILANI POLL/GALLUP PAKISTAN

Islamabad, Feb 27, 2014
According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, 75% Pakistanis say the water they drink is safe for health.  
A nationally representative sample of men and women, from across the four provinces was asked “In your opinion, the water that you use for drinking, is it safe for your health?” Responding to this, 75% said it is safe compared to 24% who said it was unsafe. 1% did not respond.

Respondents who replied it was unsafe were further asked “If unsafe, then why?” In response, 44% said the water tastes bad, 21% said it looks brown and 21% said the stomach related problems are common. 15% replied the water smells bad.2% did not respond.

The study was released by Gilani Foundation and carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International. The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 2605 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during Feb 03, 2014 – Feb 10, 2014. Error margin is estimated to be approximately ± 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.
