39% Pakistanis own pets; 24% own a dog. GILANI POLL/GALLUP PAKISTAN

According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, 39% Pakistanis own pets; 24% own a dog.

A nationally representative sample of men and women, from across the four provinces was asked “Is there a pet animal/bird in your house?” Responding to this, 39% said yes and 60% replied no. 1% did not respond.

Following up on the previous question, respondents were further asked: “If yes, which animal/bird?”  24% said a dog, 20% replied parrot and 18% responded cow/buffalo. 13% of the respondents mentioned a goat, 22% mentioned others and 3% did not respond.

The study was released by Gilani Foundation and carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International. The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 2629 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during Jan 20, 2014 – Jan 27, 2014. Error margin is estimated to be approximately ± 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.
