Only 19% of Pakistanis have applied for a loan under the ‘Youth Business Loan Scheme’. Of these individuals, 71% believe it is likely that their application for the loan will be approved. GILANI POLL/GALLUP PAKISTAN

According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, only 19% of Pakistanis have applied for a loan under the ‘Youth Business Loan Scheme’. Of these individuals, 71% believe it is likely that their application for the loan will be approved.
A nationally representative sample of men and women, from across the four provinces was asked “PM Nawaz Sharif recently launched the ‘Youth Business Loan Scheme’. Have you or any member in your household, applied for a loan between one and twenty lac rupees?” Responding to this, 18% replied in the affirmative while 81% said no.

The individuals who responded positively were further asked: “How likely is it that your application for a loan will be accepted that is you will get a loan?” In response, 29% claimed it to be very likely followed by 42% who believed it was somewhat likely. 25% thought it was not very likely while 3% said it was not likely at all. 1% did not respond.

The study was released by Gilani Foundation and carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International. The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 1505 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during December 23, 2013 – Dec 30, 2013. Error margin is estimated to be approximately ± 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.
