51% Pakistanis believe that Karachi’s security situation will worsen after the death of Chaudhry Aslam. 42% respondents blame Taliban for the assassination. GILANI POLL/GALLUP PAKISTAN

According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, 51% Pakistanis believe that Karachi’s security situation will worsen after the death of Chaudhry Aslam. 42% respondents blame Taliban for the assassination.
A nationally representative sample of men and women, from across the four provinces was asked “Some people are of the opinion that after SP CID Chaudhry Aslam’s death the terrorism situation in Karachi will become worse while others think that following his death the police will be more diligent in fighting terrorism. What is your opinion?” Responding to this, 51% opined the situation to worsen while 39% believed that the police will become more diligent. 10% failed to respond.


Question: “Some people are of the opinion that after SP CID Chaudhry Aslam’s death the terrorism situation in Karachi will become worse while others think that following his death the police will be more diligent in fighting terrorism. What is your opinion?”

People were further asked: “Who do you think is responsible for the death of Chaudhry Aslam?” In answer, 42% named the Taliban followed by 38% who said terrorists. 17% believed it to be the Sindh Government while 2% named others. 1% did not respond.

The study was released by Gilani Foundation and carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International. The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 2604 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during Jan 13, 2014 – Jan 20, 2014. Error margin is estimated to be approximately ± 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.
