26% Pakistanis say someone in their area fell ill because of the Dengue virus. GILANI POLL/GALLUP PAKISTAN

According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, 26% Pakistanis say someone in their area fell ill because of the Dengue virus.

A nationally representative sample of men and women, from across the four provinces was asked “Did anyone in your area/city fall ill because of dengue virus?” Responding to this, 26% said yes and 53% said no and 21% did not respond.

            The provincial breakdown showed that in Punjab 26% know of someone who was ill compared to 21% in KPK, 25% in Sindh and 37% in Balochistan.

The study was released by Gilani foundation and carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International. The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 2646 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during Sep 23, 2013 – Sep 30, 2013. Error margin is estimated to be approximately ± 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.
