46% Pakistanis think the current government should conduct local government elections as soon as possible; 21% say there is no need for such elections. GILANI POLL/GALLUP PAKISTAN.

According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, 46% Pakistanis think the current government should conduct local government elections as soon as possible; 21% say there is no need for such elections.  

A nationally representative sample of men and women from urban and rural areas across the four provinces was asked “Some people think the current government should conduct local government elections as soon as possible whereas others opine that the government should hold these elections in a few months’ time.  Moreover, some believe there is no need for such elections. What is your opinion on this?” Responding to this, 46% said the elections should be conducted as soon as possible, 25% said they should be conducted in a few months’ time whereas 21% said there should be no elections. 8% did not give a response.


Question: “Some people think the current government should conduct local government elections as soon as possible whereas others opine that the government should hold these elections in a few months’ time.  Moreover, some believe there is no need for such elections. What is your opinion on this?”

The study was released by Gilani foundation and carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International. The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 2635 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during July 01, 2013 – July 08, 2013. Error margin is estimated to be approximately ± 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.
