12% Pakistanis say a new mobile phone was purchased in their household last month; 57% of these say a Nokia phone was bought. GILANI POLL/GALLUP PAKISTAN

According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, 12% Pakistanis say a new mobile phone was purchased in their household last month; 57% of these say a Nokia phone was bought.

A nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces was asked “Did any member of your household purchase a new mobile phone in the last one month?” Responding to this, 12% said Yes and 85% said No. 3% did not give a response. Those who said “yes” were then asked “What brand of cell phone was purchased?” 57% said Nokia, 17% said Q Mobile, and 10% said Samsung and 16% identified some other brand of cell phone.

The study was released by Gilani foundation and carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International. The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 2635 men and women in urban and rural areas of all four provinces of the country, during July 01, 2013 – July 08, 2013. Error margin is estimated to be approximately ± 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.
