55% of Pakistanis prefer to sleep in total darkness. GILANI POLL/GALLUP PAKISTAN.

According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, 55% of Pakistanis prefer to sleep in total darkness.

A nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces was asked “Some people sleep at night in total darkness, while some people like to keep a night light on. Do you usually sleep in total darkness or keep a night light on?” Responding to this, 55% said total darkness and 45% said they keep a night light on.

Comparing between rural and urban localities shows that majority of rural respondents (57%) prefer to sleep in total darkness, compared with 50% of urban respondents.

Question: “Some people sleep at night in total darkness, while some people like to keep a night light on. Do you usually sleep in total darkness or keep a night light on?”

The study was released by Gilani foundation and carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International. The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 2650 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during May 20, 2013 – May 27, 2013. Error margin is estimated to be approximately ± 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.
