54% of Pakistanis think higher education helps in providing opportunities for better jobs. GILANI POLL/GALLUP PAKISTAN


Islamabad, April 17, 2013

According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, 54% of Pakistanis think higher education helps in providing opportunities for better jobs.

A nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces was asked “In your view, what does higher education help you in?” Responding to this, 54% said in providing opportunities for better jobs, 43% said better standard of living, 37% said an increase in income, 26% said awareness of own rights, 21% said better social status, 15% said better health facilities, 9% said awareness of own political rights and 1% said none of these. However, 1% did not give a response.

The study was released by Gilani foundation and carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International. The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 2639 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during March 18, 2013 – March 25, 2013. Error margin is estimated to be approximately ± 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.
