66% of Pakistanis believe eunuchs are not viewed as respectable in Pakistani society. GILANI POLL/GALLUP PAKISTAN

According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, 66% of Pakistanis believe eunuchs are not viewed as respectable in Pakistani society.

A nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces was asked “Some people are of the opinion that eunuchs are not viewed as respectable in our society, while some think that is not the case. What is your opinion on this?” Responding to this, 66% said they are not viewed as respectable and 24% said they are viewed as respectable. However, 10% did not give a view.

The study was released by Gilani foundation and carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International. The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 2589 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during November 05, 2012 – November 11, 2012. Error margin is estimated to be approximately ± 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.
